National Libraries

National libraries are the guardians of a country’s national cultural heritage. They collect, preserve and make available a country’s history to all of its citizens, and open a window on that country to people all over the world.

National Library Resources

Conference of Directors of National Libraries
CDNL is an independent association of chief executives of national libraries, established to facilitate discussion and promote understanding and cooperation on matters of common interest worldwide. CDNL meets annually, usually on the Tuesday of the week of the IFLA conference. The annual meeting is hosted by the National Library of the country which hosts the IFLA conference.
The Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania
The Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) meets every year to discuss library issues of common interest and to promote resource and information sharing within the Asia Pacific region.
IFLA National Libraries Section
The National Libraries Section supports national libraries in improving their services by generating discussion on established and emerging topics of interest: legal deposit; cataloguing and preservation; digitization and digital services ; data dissemination and data mining; the provision of common central services (e.g., reference, bibliography, preservation, circulation, research services) to authorized users and libraries on their national territory; and the promotion of national cultural policy.
